Why the remaining number is trustworthy
Budget spend is measured at the split, not the transaction, so a charge covering two buckets moves both by the right amount instead of landing entirely in whichever one you picked first. Transactions marked as transfers – a Dueflow payout arriving in the bank, or a move between your own accounts – are excluded, which is what keeps money from being counted as spending on its way in.
Cash on hand only sums checking and savings. A credit card reports what you owe, so adding it would inflate the number by the size of the debt. And when a bank needs to be reconnected, Dueflow still shows the last known balance but says plainly that it's stale rather than presenting an old figure as current.
- Splits, not transactions, are the unit of spend
- Transfers excluded so payouts aren't counted as spending
- Pending charges carry their category to the posted version
- Only spendable accounts count toward cash on hand
- Stale balances are labeled, not hidden
