Chargeback

A forced reversal of a card payment initiated by the cardholder's bank, usually after a dispute.

A chargeback happens when a member disputes a charge with their card issuer and the bank pulls the money back from the recipient, often with an added fee. For chapters, chargebacks are rare but disruptive; clear payment descriptions, receipts, and itemized dues reduce confusion that leads to disputes.
