Line Item

A single entry for a specific income source or expense in a budget or ledger.

A line item is one row in a budget or ledger — for example 'Spring Formal: $4,000' or 'National Dues: $30,000.' Breaking a budget into clear line items makes it easy to see where money comes from and goes, compare planned vs. actual spending, and explain the budget to the chapter.
